Trending screen that shows popular content

A visual cue towards any “hot” posts which accounts for location, mood, or thought, like a quick fun way to build momentum towards a song - when a track is played multiple times at a festival or on radio stations all night long ala pirate radio.
It’s quite fun when reactions towards a song/reaction gains momentum, and ears prick up! Bringing certain songs to the forefront, dependent upon post metrics (region/mood/media/hype/etc)

Hey and.rew, since you've submitted some great feedback here and in the past, we'd love to get some more of your thoughts in a quick 5-10 minute survey. Would you be down to fill this out when you've got some free time? https://forms.gle/fetGF5nGPbeRrqmH8

There's getting to be enough music shared that it would be nice to see the ones with more recent likes and comments closer to the top of our feed - "trending" content. Guessing this is planned but feel like it has to be said

+1 here. I would like to see an option on the home screen of the app a way for me to toggle between a list of expressions from users I am following, and a "Trending" feed of expressions.
We'll have a lot of things we'll have to figure out here though for this to make this work and look nicely.
Some main things I can think of:
-- If we have just one global trending feed, what parameters do we look at to determine something to be Trending? For example.. number of likes per hr? number of comments per hr? Trending hashtags? Trending songs?
-- If we have one global trending feed, we'll had to decide how to compare something that is trending due a number of likes per hour to number of times a song was posted per hour to something number of times a hashtag was used per hour (ect.)
...Otherwise we will need to have separate trending lists for Likes/Hashtags/Songs/Ect... Which might ultimately be the best for look and feel, but also might water down the trending feed a bit..
I know this is a little long winded Alexander, but what are your thoughts on this?

Matt (Grey Matter): r u a rando or r u coding the algorithm?
Personally I don't generally care about what people who I don't know are sharing, so I think the default feed should be for followees only, a la instagram, and there should be another discovery-based feed like twitter trending, the tiktok for you page, or the insta explore page. IDK data science but I feel like it should be a combo of likes and comments and how long people keep listening to the song / reading the caption

Alexander: Haha! I'm Matt, I work on the Grey Matter team, but I'm also passionate user of the app and wanted to get deeper on this one with you!
Totally agreed, the default feed should be followers only. In the current build, at the home screen you see a global feed of expressions. In an upcoming release we will change the default view to users you are following.
My thought is were that at the home screen you have the option to switch from the default follow feed, to a global "discovery/trending" type screen.
Once we come closer to developing this we'll get in touch tp get your feedback.

Great call, we'll eventually want to bring in some sort of algo that brings trending posts and featured users and such to the top.
